Shelagh Legrave to be awarded OBE – Chichester College

Shelagh Legrave to be awarded OBE - Chichester CollegeIt has been announced that our Strategic Partner Chichester College’s Principal, Shelagh Legrave, is to receive an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Shelagh, who has been Principal of Chichester College since 2010, will be awarded the OBE for services to Further Education. This award comes after the College were awarded Outstanding in every inspection area during their general inspection in March 2014, in addition to gaining a second Outstanding for their residential care in February of this year.

The award comes after an eventful career to date for the college Principal. After a stint in the army, Shelagh worked in the city where she trained as a Chartered Accountant before joining Chichester College as Chief Operating Officer in April 2003.

After a very successful period where she secured the Colleges’ finances Shelagh took over as Principal and Chief Executive from Dr Richard Parker in 2010.

Since then she has led us through one of the most successful periods in the our history with the aforementioned Ofsted inspection results added to a National Beacon Award for Licence to Observe, a Gold medal winner at the Worldskills final and the construction of a state of the art Construction block.

Upon learning of her place on the list, Shelagh said:

I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be receiving an OBE. It is, however, testament to the great staff and students of Chichester who have made this possible.”

However, Shelagh isn’t the only member of her family to receive the award. Her sister, Bridgett Simmons was awarded an OBE in 2005 for services to Sport.
