American Express, our Founding Partner and the City’s largest private sector employer, was today named Gold Partner of Brighton Pride, taking place on 1-2 August 2015.
Marking its 25th anniversary in the City, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community event has become the UK’s biggest Pride festival and is a spectacular showcase of Brighton’s diverse community.
This year’s silver anniversary event is expected to attract huge numbers of participants and spectators from across Sussex. As in previous years, American Express will be entering a float in the LGBT Community Pride Parade. Employees (including members of the company’s award-winning Pride UK LGBT employee network) will be on-board, getting into the carnival spirit and lining the route with family members and friends.
Mike Whyte, Vice President, Merchant Services American Express said: “We are immensely proud to be continuing our partnership with Brighton Pride and we’re looking forward to celebrating their 25 years of incredible work, raising awareness and funds for the LGBT community.”
The financial services company is a proud supporter of the LGBT community. A Stonewall 2015 Workplace Equality Index Top 100 Employer, the American Express Pride employee network was recently named Stonewall Network Group of the Year (2015), in recognition of its work promoting diversity and inclusion both inside the organisation and within the local community.
Paul Kemp, Brighton Pride Community Interest Company, said: “An annual Pride event has been part of the summer landscape in Brighton and Hove since 1991 – 25 years on, there has never been a more exciting time to be involved with Pride.
“We are delighted that American Express is again on board and as a Gold Partner this year. Support from partners is crucial to deliver what has become one of our City’s most lively and best attended events and as such, achieves significant fundraising targets that make a huge difference to local LGBT causes.”
2014’s Brighton Pride raised a record breaking £64,000 for LGBT groups across Sussex. Beneficiaries included Allsorts Youth Project, Lunch Positive, LGBT Community Safety Forum, MindOut, Peer Action and Clare Project. Last year also saw the introduction of debit and credit card payments at Preston Park for the purchase of tickets and refreshments.
